Yesaya 46:9

46:9 Remember what I accomplished in antiquity! ¹ 

Truly I am God, I have no peer; ² 

I am God, and there is none like me,

Yesaya 54:4

54:4 Don’t be afraid, for you will not be put to shame!

Don’t be intimidated, ³  for you will not be humiliated!

You will forget about the shame you experienced in your youth;

you will no longer remember the disgrace of your abandonment. ⁴ 

Yesaya 64:9

64:9 Lord, do not be too angry!

Do not hold our sins against us continually! ⁵ 

Take a good look at your people, at all of us! ⁶ 

Yesaya 65:17

65:17 For look, I am ready to create

new heavens and a new earth! ⁷

[54:4]  ⁴ tn Another option is to translate, “the disgrace of our widowhood” (so NRSV). However, the following context (vv. 6-7) refers to Zion’s husband, the Lord, abandoning her, not dying. This suggests that an אַלְמָנָה (’almanah) was a woman who had lost her husband, whether by death or abandonment.

[64:9]  ⁶ tn Heb “Look, gaze at your people, all of us.” Another option is to translate, “Take a good look! We are all your people.”

[65:17]  ⁷ sn This hyperbolic statement likens the coming transformation of Jerusalem (see vv. 18-19) to a new creation of the cosmos.
